This large casino/hotel complex was designed for the Southern Ute tribe in Colorado. The building exterior needed to be attractive, culturally appropriate and visually interesting while still relating to the natural environment of the southern foothills of the Rocky Mountains. A mix of simulated stone and EIFS (exterior insulation and finishing system) was chosen for exterior walls. Both were designed with water management systems for drainage. Hygrothermal modeling was used to establish the proper mix of exterior rigid insulation and fiberglass stud cavity insulation and to explore vapor retarder options.
